What if you could combine volunteering, learning and tourism in one trip? Call it VoLearn or Voluntourism! VoLearn Travel Ltd. offers participants the chance to travel to Cameroon, West Africa to help build pump wells to provide clean drinking water to countless villagers while touring and immersing themselves in the rich culture that Cameroon has to offer. Participants will try local cuisine, visit chief palaces, hike the highlands and the grass-fields of Cameroon. VoLearn Travel Ltd. works with the non-profit organization Makah Foundation: www.makahwaterforall.org in building wells in villages in Cameroon.
We offer two trips per year; one in summer trip with community members and a winter (December) trip with students. Trips are usually up to three weeks long. A $500 non-refundable processing fee for those traveling in summer. Total cost of trip vary from trip to trip, please contact us for trip cost.
The December trip is an official Study Abroad Program for students through the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point for 3 credits. Participants can apply for financial aid to help pay for the trip. Cost Includes: Round trip flight from Chicago O’Hare to Douala, Cameroon - Travel insurance - Meals - Drinking water - Housing - Tours & entertainments -Entry visas - Three lectures - Two hotel night stay (one night in Douala on arrival and one night in Limbe or Buea before we exit.
Please Note: There is no credit associated with the Summer trip and it is open to anybody and designed to accommodate families. Any participant under 15 years of age must be accompanied by a parent. Parents must sign an authorization form for participants under 18 years of age.
Participants are responsible for their transportation to and from Chicago O'Hare Airport. Travelers are encouraged to arrive at least 3 hours before departure time at the airport.
Discuss vaccine options with your physician. Yellow Fever vaccine is required for everybody before you can obtain a visa. Your vaccination card is required to enter the country. Other vaccine recommendations are discussed in detail in the Student and Community Member tabs.
